Mizzou extends SEC losing streak with series-opening loss to Georgia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Baseball's opportunities to end its winless SEC season are dwindling down.
The Tigers (13-32) suffered their 22nd straight loss to conference opponents, falling 9-1 in game one of its series with No. 24 Georgia (37-11). MU's last SEC win was earned on May 18, 2024.
Despite the lopsided score, Mizzou starting pitcher Brady Kehlenbrink delivered an excellent effort on the mound. The freshman left-hander allowed only one hit, a home run from Nolan McCarthy in the third inning, and struck out six batters over 4.1 innings of work.
However, Georgia punished Mizzou's bullpen once Kehlenbrink exited the game. Josh McDevitt, Xavier Lovett and Ben Smith surrendered nine combined hits and eight earned runs over 4.2 frames, including three home runs to the team that leads the nation in that category.
Pierre Seals posted MU's only multi-hit effort, going 2-for-5 at the dish with a double and his fifth home run of the season. Six more players contributed one hit towards the team's cause.
However, Mizzou's eight-hit performance at the plate was overshadowed by the game-high nine runners that the team left stranded. Overall, the Tigers finished 2-for-11 with runners on base and 1-for-7 with someone in scoring position.
Up next - MU will strive to even its three-game series with UGA on Saturday night under the lights at Taylor Stadium. First pitch on May 3 is scheduled for 7 p.m.
