Mizzou sustains 18th straight SEC loss, remains winless in conference action

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Baseball beat the rain but could not beat No. 18 Oklahoma this weekend.

The Tigers (13-26) are still waiting on their first SEC win of the season, following a series sweep from the Sooners (29-10).

Due to expected inclement weather this weekend, MU wrapped up the three-game set with a Friday doubleheader, which ended in a 17-7 loss in game one and a 12-1 defeat in the nightcap. Oklahoma defeated Mizzou in run-rule fashion in all three games, outscoring the Tigers 46-12 in the series.

With those defeats, head coach Kerrick Jackson's team has lost its last 18 games against SEC opponents.

MU's starting pitchers for Friday's doubleheader combined to allow 16 earned runs over 5.2 innings. Kaden Jacobi and Tony Neubeck were both charged with losses, each giving up eight runs in their respective outings. Xavier Lovett was the lone bright spot for the pitching staff, holding Oklahoma to just two runs on four hits over 4.1 relief innings in game two.

Offensively, the Tigers recorded 10 hits in the first game of the twin bill, guide by Kaden Peer who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI's and his fourth home run of the year. Gehrig Goldbeck and Brock Daniels also posted multi-hit performances, and the St. Louis native belted his third home run of the campaign.

However, MU's success at the plate disappeared in the second contest of the afternoon. Mizzou struck out 11 times and recorded just three hits, courtesy of Jackson Lovich, Pierre Seals and Mateo Serna. Seals scored the team's only run of the game with an RBI single in the first frame.

Up next - The Tigers will hunt for a season series sweep of Missouri State on Tuesday, April 22. First pitch from Springfield is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
