Mizzou completes comeback for sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Baseball survived a scare from Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
The Tigers (11-17) erased a five-run deficit against the Golden Lions (5-25) to earn a 8-7 win in walk-off fashion.
Keegan Knutson delivered a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning, finishing off the come-from-behind victory and a two-hit, two-RBI day at the dish.
MU's pitching staff ran into trouble in the second inning, giving up five runs on five hits, including a three-RBI double from Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Dane Small. However, Mizzou's pitchers bounced back after that frame. Collectively, the Tigers only allowed one earned run on seven hits in the final seven innings.
After Arkansas-Pine Bluff's five-run frame, head coach Kerrick Jackson's group slowly started to manufacture a comeback. Pierre Seals (2) and Brady Picarelli (4) both hit solo home runs to cut the team's deficit to three runs in the home half of the second inning.
The Golden Lions added one run to the scoreboard in each of the next two frames, but the Tigers tallied three consecutive two-run innings to pull within one run of the lead. Chris Patterson recorded a two-RBI single in the third inning to make it a two-run game. Then, Seals, who led the charge at the plate with a 3-for-4 effort, recorded his second RBI of the game to make another dent in Arkansas-Pine Bluff's advantage.
From there, Kaden Peer tied the contest with an RBI triple in the seventh inning ahead of Knutson's heroics in the final frame.
While Seals and Knutson posted the team's only multi-hit performances, eight different players had at least one hit for the Tigers.
