Mizzou Baseball falls in series finale at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Baseball fell short of capturing back-to-back SEC series wins on Saturday night, losing to Georgia 10-7 at Foley Field. The Tigers are now returning to Columbia with a 5-10 record in conference play.

Georgia quickly built a 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the first inning, followed by a two-run home run from Charlie Condon during the second frame. However, Mizzou erased that five-run deficit in the third and fourth innings to tie the game. Kerrick Jackson's crew posted five unanswered runs on a sacrifice fly from Jedier Hernandez, an RBI single from Matt Garcia, a two-RBI double from Brock Daniels and a solo shot from Tucker Moore, his second home run of the season.

Despite that rally, the Bulldogs responded by scoring four runs in the home half of the frame to take a 9-5 lead. Mizzou tried to spark a late comeback bid in the final inning on a two-run home run from Garcia but could not completely overcome the deficit.

Mizzou did plenty of damage offensively. The Tigers posted 10 hits, and four different players ended the game with multi-hit performances for Mizzou. Garcia led the way with a team-high 3 RBI's.

However, that production on offense was not enough to overcome a rough game for Mizzou's pitching staff. Javyn Pimental started on the mound, allowing seven runs on five hits in less than four innings of work. The bullpen did post better results though, giving up three runs and four hits in just under five frames.

Up next - Mizzou travels to Springfield for a Show Me State rivalry game with Missouri State. That contest is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16.
