Mizzou loses high-scoring battle with Georgia in series opener

ATHENS, Ga. (KMIZ)

Mizzou Baseball is still hunting for its first SEC road win of the season after falling to Georgia 15-10 on Thursday night, despite a late comeback bid. The Tigers are now 4-9 in conference play heading into game two of this three-game set.

Kerrick Jackson's crew took the first lead of the game on an RBI double from Jedier Hernandez in the opening inning, but Georgia responded with 11 unanswered runs to take an 11-1 lead after five frames. Mizzou got six of those runs back in the sixth and seventh innings to cut its deficit down to 11-7, courtesy of a two-run blast from Kaden Peer, a two-RBI double from Brock Daniels, a Georgia fielding error and an RBI triple from Drew Culbertson. The Tigers got within three runs of tying the game, but the Bulldogs padded their lead in the home half of the eighth inning with a solo home run from Fernando Gonzalez and an RBI double from Charlie Condon to help seal their victory.

Four different Tigers finished Thursday's action with multi-hit performances, highlighted by a four-hit game from Matt Garcia. Peer posted a team-high three RBI's, and his second career home run was Mizzou's only homer of the game.

Up next - Mizzou will aim to even its three-game series with Georgia on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m.
