Mizzou survives Lindenwood for midweek victory
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Mizzou Baseball worked around a bases loaded jam in the ninth inning on Wednesday evening at Taylor Stadium to secure a 5-4 win over Lindenwood. The Tigers entered the final frame with a two-run lead, and although they surrendered one run to the Lions in that inning, Mizzou held on to capture a midweek win to improve their record to 6-6 this season.
Mizzou supplied most of its offense in the fourth inning of this contest. After back-to-back singles from Helias alum Trevor Austin and Jackson Lovich, Austin scored off a wild throw to third base and Lovich trotted home following a bases loaded walk. Then, Mateo Serna delivered a two-RBI single to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead after four frames. Serna recorded three RBIs in the game.
Lindenwood outscored Mizzou 3-1 in the final five innings of the game, but the Tigers' pitching staff kept its lead safe.
Mizzou starting pitcher Daniel Wissler posted a strong outing. The sophomore left-hander allowed just one run over a career-best five innings of work. He also tied his career-high with four strikeouts. Russellville alum Charlie Miller was Mizzou's most effective pitcher out of the bullpen, striking out four batters over two scoreless innings.
Up next - Mizzou is set to begin a four-game series with Purdue Fort Wayne this weekend. First pitch for game one is currently scheduled for Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m.
