Mizzou baseball falls short in series opener against Alabama

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou baseball team could not get a win to start another conference series against Alabama this weekend. MU fell to the Crimson Tide, 6-4.

The Tigers led 3-1 after five innings of action, however, the pitching staff let four runs go in the sixth inning to let Alabama take the lead. Friday's starter, Chandler Murphy, gave up back-to-back home runs to start of the sixth and it was ended by a two-run homer being pulled off of Austin Troesser, who came in in relief.

Troesser finished with the loss, which dropped him to 3-3 on the season. He went a little more than one innings with three earned runs and one strikeout. Murphy threw for the first five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, along with five strikeouts.

Dylan Leach lifted up a home run for Mizzou and Ty Wilmsmeyer and Trevor Austin each recorded an RBI, but it was not enough to overcome the deficiet.

Up next - Mizzou will look to tie up the series with Alabama on Saturday at Taylor Stadium. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
