Mizzou baseball gets swept in road SEC series at South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (KMIZ)

The No. 22 ranked Mizzou baseball team was swept in a road SEC series against No. 11 South Carolina after the Gamecocks walked off the final game in the 12th inning.

The series started on Friday where the Tigers fell in a heartbreaker 9-8 after having a three run lead entering the final inning of play.

Game one was led from a big day at the plate from Luke Mann going 4-for-5 with six RBI's, including three home runs. Rorik Maltrud had a good performance on the mound pitching a little over three innings allowing two hits and no runs, plus recording eight strikeouts.

Saturday the two teams returned to the diamond for a doubleheader. In game one, the Gamecocks dominated winning 8-1. In this game, Hank Zeisler and Ty Wilsmeyer both went 2-for-4 with Wilsmeyer bringing in the sole run.

In game two, MU was once again on top until the bottom of the eighth inning when a two-run shot forced the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, South Carolina managed to load to bases and a shot up the middle from Ethan Petry brought the winning run home.

With the loss, Mizzou is now 17-6 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.
