COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou men's basketball forward Jaylen Carey has been indefinitely suspended from the program after a violation of team rules, head coach Dennis Gates said on Monday.

Gates didn't have any other details on the suspension during his meeting with local media members. At this point, there is no word on if Carey will be able to return from the suspension or not.

The forward was set for his first season in Columbia, after transferring in from Tennessee in the offseason. The senior has moved around quite a bit in his collegiate career, making stops at James Madison, Vanderbilt and, most recently, at Rocky Top. He helped the Volunteers to an Elite Eight run in the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 7.4 point and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Carey was primed to be a big contributor in the Mizzou front-court, ranking No. 21 in the Southeastern Conference in rebounding last season.

The 6-foot-8, 255-pound forward did not play in either of the Tigers' preseason exhibition games against Kansas State and ULNV. However, he was practicing with the team at the annual pro day that Coach Gates opened up to local media members, on Oct. 11.
