Mizzou tops Illinois for Braggin’ Rights, posts pair of season-high scores

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (KMIZ)
No. 9 Mizzou Gymnastics has surpassed a 197.000 team score for a third straight meet.
The Tigers (7-3) earned Braggin' Rights over Illinois (4-4) with a 197.200-196.675 win on Sunday afternoon, behind season-best scores in two different events.
MU set new season-highs on both bars and floor, reaching a 49.475 score on both apparatuses.
Mizzou was paced by Amari Celestine and Mara Titarsolej, who split the event title on bars with 9.925 performances. Collectively, MU posted the five highest scores in that event at Sunday's meet.
Jocelyn Moore shared the floor title with Illinois' Chloe Choe with a 9.950 routine. All six of MU's performers on that apparatus scored a 9.825 or better.
Celestine was crowned the all-around champion of the meet, and Amy Weir also earned a share of the beam title with her 9.900 score, which tied Illinois' Olivia Coppola and Amelia Knight.
While MU also hit the 49.000-mark with a 49.275 score on beam, the team did struggle on vault. Mizzou's best score in that event was a 9.850 from Hannah Horton and Celestine was her only teammate to reach the 9.800-mark with their performance on vault. Overall, the Tigers tied their season-low on that apparatus with a 48.975 score.
Up next - Mizzou Gymnastics will take over the Gateway City for its Zou to the Lou Quad against No. 14 Alabama, Illinois and Iowa. The meet is scheduled to begin from Family Arena in St. Charles on Friday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m.
