Karissa Schweizer earns 9th place in 10,000m final at Paris Olympics

Former Mizzou Tiger Karissa Schweizer has completed her run at the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning top 10 finishes in both of her events.

Fresh off a 10th place finish in the women's 5,000-meter run, the two-time Olympian secured 9th place in the women's 10,000-meter event on Friday with a final time of 30:51.99. Schweizer finished the race just under nine seconds behind the gold medalist, Kenya's Beatrice Chebet, and never lost sight of the lead pack throughout the event.

The former six-time NCAA national champion distance runner was the second United States runner to cross the finish line on Friday, finishing just one spot behind Weini Kelati Frezghi, who was the top finisher for Team USA in the 10,000-meter final. Schweizer's time was just two seconds behind Kelati Frezghi.

The MU legend's second trip to the Summer Olympics ended with her exceeding her personal best finishes on the international stage in both the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter races. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Schweizer finished in 11th place and 12th place respectively in those two events.
