Mizzou rolls past Oklahoma to secure first conference win

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No. 3 Mizzou Wrestling cruised to a 30-12 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma at the Hearnes Center to kick off conference play. Friday's match marked the Tigers' second dual win this season.

Brian Smith's team has now won six of its last seven duals against the Sooners.

Mizzou started the dual with two straight victories in the 285 and 125 pound weight classes. Zach Elam won 2-1 by decision while Noah Surtin earned a 10-1 major decision victory.

After Oklahoma secured back-to-back wins in the 133 and 141 pound bouts, Brian Smith's crew rattled off five straight victories.

Logan Gioffre defeated Willie McDougald 4-1 in sudden victory to give Mizzou a 10-6 lead over Oklahoma in the dual. Then, Father Tolton alum Brock Mauller rolled past Oklahoma's John Wiley to win 12-4 by major decision.

Two-time national champion Keegan O'Toole kept the momentum going, pinning Cael Carlson to win his match in the 165 pound weight class. Finally, Peyton Mocco and Clayton Whiting both dominated their opponents, winning both matches by technical fall 16-1 and 19-4 respectively.

Mizzou's next dual is on Friday, Dec. 8 at the Hearnes Center against Wyoming. That dual is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
