Mizzou offense catches fire in late innings to take down No. 11 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. (KMIZ)

The heat from the Mizzou softball bats in the run-rule win over Alabama carried into the road trip against No. 11 LSU winning game one of the series in Baton Rouge 8-6.

The Tigers trailed 5-1 in this game, but a four run fifth inning followed by three more in the sixth secured the win.

Maddie Gallagher brought in three runs for MU including two to tie the game in the fifth. Jefferson City alum Kara Daly also brought in two including the go-ahead run in the sixth. The Tigers totaled nine hits on the day and seven stolen bases.

On the mound, it was a group effort to get the job done. Jordan Weber started the game throwing just over three innings allowing three runs on three hits. Megan Schumacher came in for relief in the fourth giving up three more runs. Emma Nichols and freshman Taylor Pannell came in to close it out now allowing a single run in the last three innings.

With the win, Mizzou is now 23-16 on the season and 3-10 in the SEC. The series at LSU continues Friday at 6 p.m.
