No. 23 Mizzou softball splits opening day double header

CLEARWATER, Fl. (KMIZ)

No. 23 Mizzou softball lost the 2023 season opener at the NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic to No. 6 Texas 11-1.

The Tigers struggled to put runs on the boards with just five hits on the day, two of which came from Jenna Laird and the lone RBI coming from Alex Honnold.

Jordan Weber started the game on the mound surrendering seven runs on nine hits. Laurin Krings took over on the rubber giving up four more runs on seven hits.

Mizzou bounced back in the second game of the day taking down Fordham 13-3.

Julia Crenshaw record the Tigers first home run of the year finishing the game with two hits and four RBI's. Riley Frizell also had two hits and three RBI's in the win.

Freshman pitcher Cierra Harrison had a good debut on the mound against Fordham allowing just one hit in four innings pitched.

Mizzou has two more games in the classic on Saturday taking down No. 8 Northwestern and Louisville.
