Royals salvage series with walk-off win over Mets

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Kansas City arrived at the MLB All-Star Break with a reason to celebrate.
Royals outfielder Nick Loftin delivered a walk-off RBI single to guide Kansas City (47-50) to a 3-2 win over the New York Mets (55-42) in Sunday's series finale at Kauffman Stadium. Loftin's game-winning hit was his second walk-off single in the team's last five games.
Manager Matt Quatraro's team entered the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead, courtesy of a two-RBI double from John Rave in the second frame. However, the Mets charged Carlos Estevez with a blown save by tying the game with an RBI triple from Jeff McNeil and a sacrifice fly from Jared Young.
Despite surrendering the lead, the Royals rallied in the home half of the frame. After Tyler Tolbert reached base safely with a single to right field, he stole second base to put himself in scoring position for Loftin, who capitalized on the opportunity.
Collectively, the Royals posted 10 hits with contributions from nine different players. Jonathan India recorded the team's only multi-hit effort, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate.
Noah Cameron continued his excellent start to his rookie season, tossing 6.2 shutout innings. He allowed seven hits but struck out eight batters in a no-decision outing.
Up next - Kansas City travels to Miami at the conclusion of the MLB All-Star Break to face the Marlins. First pitch of this three-game weekend series is scheduled for Friday, July 18 at 6:10 p.m.
