Caglianone’s first multi-homer game powers Royals to series sweep

ARLINGTON, Texas (KMIZ)

Kansas City's top prospect has hit his first MLB home runs.

Jac Caglianone crushed a pair of solo shots for the Royals (37-38) in their series finale with the Rangers (36-39), propelling them to a 4-1 victory.

With this sweep, manager Matt Quatraro's club has captured some much-needed momentum, responding to a six-game losing skid with three consecutive victories to improve its record to just one contest below the .500-mark ahead of a stretch of four straight series against teams with winning records.

Caglianone crushed the first home runs of his professional career in the second and ninth frames to highlight his second-ever multi-hit effort in the big leagues. The former No. 6 overall draft pick raised his batting average to .218 with his outing.

Bobby Witt Jr. joined Caglianone as the team's two players to record two hits in this contest, finishing 2-for-3 with one run scored.

Vinnie Pasquantino supplied the spark that ignited Thursday's win, hitting his 11th home run of the year to give the Royals a 2-0 lead in the opening frame of the game.

Collectively, the Royals put strong hitting and pitching performances together in all three games, averaging more than five runs per game and giving up less than two runs per outing in this series. Michael Wacha maintained that trend with a six-inning start on the mound, allowing just one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the campaign. John Schreiber, Angel Zerpa and Carlos Estevez also combined to throw three shutout innings out of the bullpen, ending with Estevez's 21st save of the season.

Up next - The Royals travel to San Diego for a weekend series with the Padres. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, June 20 at 8:40 p.m.
