Royals extend recent surge with four-game sweep over White Sox

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Since April 20, the Royals own the best record in Major League Baseball.

Kansas City (23-16) cruised past the Chicago White Sox (10-28) on Thursday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, extending its winning streak to six straight games with a 10-0 victory. The Royals currently hold the fourth-best record in the American League, despite sitting six games below the .500-mark less than three weeks ago.

Manager Matt Quatraro's team has won 15 of its last 17 contests, dating back to mid-April. During that stretch, Kansas City's pitching staff, who boasts the second-best ERA (2.91) in the MLB, has shut out six of its opponents.

Kris Bubic maintained the team's excellence on the mound in Thursday's win, becoming the second starting pitcher to toss seven shutout innings in as many days. The young left-hander allowed just six hits and recorded seven strikeouts in his seven-inning outing.

Offensively, the Royals collected 17 hits against the White Sox. Salvador Perez was one of the catalysts of that offensive explosion, delivering an RBI double in the first frame to give his team its first lead of the game. The MLB veteran added to his 2-for-4 effort at the dish in his next at-bat, lining an RBI single into center field in the third inning. Perez posted a game-high three RBI's in this contest and was one of seven different players to record a multi-hit performance for the Royals.

Bobby Witt Jr. finished the afternoon with the 8th four-hit game of his career, ending 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth innings. Perez, Jonathan India, and Maikel Garcia joined Witt Jr. as the four players to tally at least two RBI's in this game.

Up next - Kansas City is putting its winning streak to the test with a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox at Kauffman Stadium. The three-game set is scheduled to start on Friday, May 9 at 6:40 p.m.
