Royals earn walk-off win over Yankees, salvage four-game series
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Royals entered the ninth inning of Thursday's series finale in danger of suffering a four-game sweep to the Yankees, but Maikel Garcia changed Kansas City's fate with just one swing of the bat. Garcia's two-RBI double with two outs in the final frame propelled the Royals to a walk-off win over the team with the best record in Major League Baseball.
Alec Marsh's stellar effort on the mound also helped guide the Royals to their first win in five games. The right-hander tossed a gem, pitching seven shutout innings and giving up just one hit while striking out seven batters.
Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino posted two RBIs each in the contest, and as a team, Kansas City posted nine hits. Bobby Witt Jr. was the only Kansas City hitter to record more than one hit in the game.
Kansas City's record is now 40-30 on the season, and the team is currently just five games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the lead in the American League Central Division standings.
Up next - The Royals hit the road for the City of Angels for a three-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The first pitch for Friday's series opener is scheduled for 9:10 p.m.
