Royals shut out in rubber match, lose series to Orioles
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Royals were held to just five hits on Sunday afternoon, leading to a 5-0 shutout loss to the Orioles in their series finale. Kansas City fell in the final two contests of this three-game set to post its second series loss of the young season to Baltimore.
Matt Quatraro's crew now has a 13-9 overall record this season, entering the final series of Kansas City's seven-game homestand.
Seth Lugo was charged with the loss for the Royals after allowing four earned runs on nine hits, including back-to-back home runs to Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg in the third inning. The Kansas City right-hander only posted one strikeout in just over five innings of work.
Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, MJ Melendez, Freddy Fermin and Garrett Hampson all tallied one hit for the Royals while Baltimore recorded 11 hits as a team. Only one of Kansas City's five hits went for extra bases.
Up next - The Royals welcome the Toronto Blue Jays to Kauffman Stadium, starting on Monday for a four-game series. First pitch for game one of the series is scheduled for April 22 at 6:40 p.m.
