Late offensive spark isn’t enough to power Royals over Guardians

CLEVELAND, Ohio (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals have now lost a sixth-straight series after the Guardians secured a 8-3 victory on Wednesday to close out the series.

Kansas City starter Alec Marsh allowed four runs in under three innings. The rookie has lost each of his five major league starts. Marsh has allowed nine home runs in 23 innings.

José Ramírez had two home runs on the day, plus David Fry hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Steven Kwan had two RBIs.

MJ Melendez hit a solo homer in the ninth for the Royals. Maikel Garcia had an RBI single in the fifth and Dairon Blanco drove in a run with an eighth-inning single. Kansas City loaded the bases again with one out in the sixth but failed to score.

The Royals sit at 29-75 on the season, which is 29 games out of first place in the division.

Up next - the team will return to Kauffman Stadium for a three-game series with the Twins starting Friday at 7:10 p.m.
