Royals find some offense to avoid sweep against Rays

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Kansas City Royals found a spark after the MLB All-Star break Sunday to avoid the series sweep against the Tampa Bay Rays in an 8-4 victory.

Kansas City got off to a 7-0 lead through seven innings of play, before the Rays put together four runs in the eighth to give them a shot.

Brady Singer got the start on the hill throwing seven scoreless frames before allowing four in the eighth. He also picked up four strikeouts in the outing.

Bobby Witt Jr. was the leading force at the plate in the victory going 2-for-4 with three RBI's, including a solo homer. MJ Melendez and Drew Waters also brought in two runs each.

Up next - Kansas City continues the home stand with a four-game series against the Detroit Tigers. Game one will start Monday at 7:10 p.m.
