Drew Lock impresses, Chiefs struggle in second preseason loss

The Chiefs are still waiting on their first win of the 2025 NFL preseason.

With its veteran starters on the sideline, Kansas City (0-2) allowed 477 total yards to Seattle (1-0-1), leading to a 33-16 defeat at Lumen Field.

In Friday's loss, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, linebacker Nick Bolton, defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback Trent McDuffie were among the players who did not appear in the game.

Kansas City's defense surrendered four touchdowns in its second preseason outing, two of which were manufactured by former Mizzou quarterback Drew Lock. The Lee's Summit native led touchdown drives on three of his four possessions, finishing 10-for-12 with a game-best 129 passing yards and two 12-yard touchdown throws to wide receiver Jake Bobo. Lock also rushed for 34 yards on two carries.

Defensively, the Chiefs struggled to contain Seattle's rushing attack. The Seahawks had four different players hit the 45-yard mark on the ground, recording 268 combined rushing yards and two touchdowns. Seattle's quarterbacks also completed more than 80% of their throws.

Offensively, Kansas City had two standout performers. Chiefs backup quarterback Gardner Minshew was efficient, completing 7-of-9 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. The NFL journeyman owns a 72% completion percentage and two total touchdowns through two preseason games. Chiefs tight end Robert Tonyan also led the team in receiving yards (41) and caught a 1-yard touchdown from Minshew in the second quarter.
