Chiefs welcome season ticket holders to training camp, prepare for first public practice
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KMIZ)
Kansas City's season ticket holders have gotten an exclusive first look at this year's team.
The Chiefs kicked off training camp at Missouri Western State University on Tuesday morning, exclusively with season ticket holders in attendance.
Fans had the opportunity to watch the first practice of training camp and receive full team autographs.
For some, it was their first time visiting training camp in St. Joseph. For others, they have been attending these practices for years. Phil Smith, who has been buying season tickets from the Chiefs for 34 years, made the trip to Missouri Western to get his first glimpse at this year's team on Tuesday. The longtime Chiefs fan has witnessed the franchise's ups and downs but is excited to watch the team continue its dynasty era this season.
"I tell you what, it's been awesome. We had a chance to get [to the Super Bowl] a couple of times, and you know, we didn't make it. It was kind of a roller coaster ride for a little while," Smith said. "Just looking back and seeing some of the things that we went through, I think this is our time, our dynasty."
Although only season ticket members were invited to the first day of training camp, the public will be allowed to attend most of the team's remaining practices, starting on Wednesday, July 23. Admission to training camp is free with a ticket reservation, excluding practices on July 27, Aug. 2 and Aug. 3. Each of those days will require a $6 admission fee.
The Chiefs provide fans with the opportunity to take photos, receive autographs from players, buy the latest gear in the Chiefs Pro Shop, participate in football-related activities and watch practice.
Chiefs Training Camp continues until Wednesday, Aug. 13.
