Chiefs turn attention to defense at 2025 NFL Draft

GREEN BAY, Wis. (KMIZ)

The Chiefs have used all three of their second and third round draft choices on defensive talent.

Kansas City selected Tennessee's Omarr Norman-Lott, Louisville's Ashton Gillotte and California's Nohl Williams on day two of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Norman-Lott played five seasons at the college level, spending three years at Arizona State before transferring to Tennessee for the last two seasons. The 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle tallied 10 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks across 23 career games with the Volunteers. He provides the franchise with some much-needed depth on the defensive line, following the departures of Tershawn Wharton and Derrick Nnadi during free agency.

Gillotte spent his entire, four-year collegiate career with Louisville and appeared in 50 games for the Cardinals. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound defensive end was a consistent contributor for all four years, posting 25.5 sacks and 39.5 tackles for loss during his tenure at Louisville. He was also a two-time All-ACC selection, led Louisville in tackles for loss in each of the last two seasons and was the nation's No. 7-ranked player in sacks (11) during the 2023 season.

The Florida native will be in the mix to earn some playing time as a rookie next season. Outside of Georgia Karlaftis, who posted a team-leading eight sacks last year, the rest of Kansas City's regulars at the defensive end position only recorded seven combined sacks during the 2024 campaign.

Finally, the Chiefs made a trade with the New England Patriots to slide into the No. 85 overall slot to select Williams, giving up their No. 95 draft choice and a 2026 fourth round pick. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound defensive back enjoyed a stellar senior season last year, finishing as a second-team AP All-American and a first-team All-ACC honoree. He led the nation with seven interceptions in 13 games last season and was the country's No. 3-ranked player in passes defensed (16). Williams joins All-Pro Trent McDuffie, free agent signee Kristian Fulton and veteran Jaylen Watson in the cornerback room.

Kansas City still has five selections for the final day of the 2025 NFL Draft. Here's a list of those remaining choices:

  • Round 4:
    • No. 133 Overall
  • Round 5:
    • No. 164 Overall
  • Round 7:
    • No. 226 Overall
    • No. 251 Overall
    • No. 257 Overall

Rounds 4-7 kick off on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
