Chiefs ink Steve Spagnuolo to contract extension
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
As the Chiefs organization and fans prepared to celebrate back-to-back Super Bowl wins at Wednesday's victory parade in Kansas City, the front office gave the team and fan base another reason to celebrate. The Chiefs announced they have signed defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a contract extension. The details of that new deal have not been released.
Spagnuolo just completed his fifth season as the leader of the Chiefs defense and has won three Super Bowl rings in Kansas City. During the 2023-24 season, Spagnuolo's defense was one of the NFL's best. Kansas City finished the regular season with the second-best scoring defense in the league, allowing only an average of 17.3 points per game. The Chiefs were also ranked No. 4 in passing yards allowed and No. 2 in sacks in the NFL during the regular season.
In 2022, Spagnuolo guided the Chiefs defense to a top three finish in several categories during the regular season, including quarterback hits, quarterback pressures and sacks.
With Spagnuolo returning to serve as Kansas City's defensive coordinator, the Chiefs will look to become the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls when the 2024 season kicks off.
