It was not a pretty win, by any means, but a win is a win. The Kansas City Chiefs topped the Jacksonville Jaguars, 17-9, on a steaming hot day in Florida, on Sunday. The victory lifted KC to 1-1 in 2023.

Patrick Mahomes did his best to carry the offense over the finish line for a win. He went 29-41 with 305 yards and two touchdowns, but did have one interception. One of those touchdown tosses was to star tight end Travis Kelce, who was back from a knee injury. The drops that plagued the group in week one, didn't end up being much of a story in week two, however, the offense did leave a lot to be desired.

Penalties were a problem, especially for right tackle Jawaan Taylor. The Chiefs tallied 12 penalties for 94 yards in Jacksonville and Taylor, by himself, had five of those penalties. Head coach Andy Reid took him out of the game for a few snaps, benching him for a series.

The Kansas City defense turned out to be the hero in Sunday's win. D-coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's group did not allow the Jaguars to score a touchdown and limited quarterback Trevor Lawrence to 216 yards on the day.

In his return to the field, star defensive tackle Chris Jones registered a sack and a half, one tackle for loss and a batted pass. However, it was Mizzou alum Nick Bolton who led the unit with eight tackles.

Up next - the Chiefs will return home, to Arrowhead Stadium, to host the Chicago Bears. Kickoff is slated for 3:25 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.
