Some COVID-19 restrictions in place at Arrowhead as the Chiefs prepare for NFL season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Kansas City will start the preseason with two road games at San Francisco on Saturday and in Arizona on Aug. 21, but the Chiefs are preparing to welcome fans back into Arrowhead on Aug. 27 against the Vikings.

This will be the first preseason game in Kansas City since 2019, but just like during last season, there will be some COVID-19 restrictions in place.

Starting Aug. 2, Kansas City began requiring masks in indoor public places regardless of vaccination status.

The Chiefs have updated their policies to follow the new mandate. Even though the majority of the stadium is outdoors, there are plenty of indoor spaces.

The Chiefs website says masks should be worn inside enclosed public areas including a variety of different lounges, clubs, and the Chiefs Pro Shop, unless you are actively eating or drinking. Unvaccinated staff members and those working in inside areas will be masked.

Other precautions have been added. All tickets including parking and premium passes are mobile.

There are a variety of limited contact-less concession experiences, and no cash will be accepted at the events.

Arrowhead has also secured certification from a cleaning industry on outbreak prevention including the cleaning and sanitation of high-touch areas before and after each game and regularly throughout the season with hospital-grade disinfectants.

The NFL has also implemented a policy saying teams that have to skip a game because of an outbreak will have to forfeit if it can't be rescheduled during the 18-week regular season.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, chief medial adviser to President Joe Biden, said after this statement that the league is sending a strong message about the importance of vaccination.
