Mid-Missouri wrestlers advance to MSHSAA state semifinals

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Nearly 50 mid-Missouri wrestlers have clinched their spot in the semifinals of the MSHSAA Wrestling Championships.

49 local high school student-athletes remain in contention for state titles, following victories in their respective state quarterfinals matches. Among those wrestlers, Brookfield's Peyton Parn is hunting for a fourth straight state championship, Tolton's Christopher Ankenman, Moberly's Breanne Gibbs and Brookfield's Jayden Keller are aiming to become three-time state champions and Tolton's Frank Hazelrigg, Fulton's Cole Blattner Centralia's Jayci Shelton, Brookfield's Devan Parn are just two wins away from back-to-back state titles.

Collectively, Centralia is currently in first place in the Class 1 Boys team standings with 95.0 points. The Panthers have eight state semifinalists and earned bonus point victories in 18 of their 22 bouts in the Class 1 Boys tournament. Brookfield, Fatima and Marceline round out the top-four teams.

Brookfield has a hold of the No. 2 spot in the Class 1 Girls team standings, trailing Kearney by just nine points for a state title. Blair Oaks also remains in the hunt for a team trophy in sixth place.

Finally, Fr. Tolton Catholic is just one spot behind Savannah for the final team trophy in the Class 2 Boys standings. The Trailblazers have four state semifinalists and are just a 0.5-point back of forcing a tie for fourth place.

The MSHSAA State Semifinals for Class 1 Boys, Class 1 Girls and Class 2 Boys are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27 at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. respectively. MSHSAA's state championship round follows at 5:45 p.m.
