Mid-Missouri wrestlers punch tickets to MSHSAA state semifinals

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Thirteen local wrestlers remain in contention for a state championship after the first day of action at the MSHSAA Class 3 Boys, Class 2 Girls and Class 4 Boys State Tournaments. Hickman, Helias and Camdenton each have a trio of wrestlers who have advanced to the state semifinals, and Rock Bridge, Capital City, Jefferson City and Rolla will also be represented in the semifinal round.

The Kewpies are currently in position to earn a team trophy, sitting in fourth place with 57.5 points in the Class 4 Boys tournament. Hickman currently holds a 6.5-point lead over Willard, who is in fifth place in the team standings. In Class 3 Boys, Helias is currently the top local program in the standings. The Crusaders find themselves in 10th place but are just 13.5 points away from catching Ft. Zumwalt South, who is in fourth place. The top four wrestling programs in each tournament earn a team trophy at the conclusion of the championship bouts.

Here's a list of mid-Missouri wrestlers, who have advanced to Saturday's semifinal bouts:

CLASS 3 BOYS:

  • DAEMEN DUEMMEL (HELIAS)
  • ELI HOMAN (HELIAS)
  • LOGAN MONTOYA (HELIAS)
  • REYCE TURNER (CAPITAL CITY)
  • NATHANIEL BEESON (CAMDENTON)
  • KAYDEN KINDER (ROLLA)

CLASS 2 GIRLS:

  • ALEXIS DUNWIDDIE (JEFFERSON CITY)
  • ABIGAIL FUGLSANG (CAMDENTON)
  • CLARA RATHMANN (CAMDENTON)

CLASS 4 BOYS:

  • HANK BENTER (HICKMAN)
  • JORDAN FINCHER (HICKMAN)
  • LUKE HAYDEN (HICKMAN)
  • TYLER ABELL (ROCK BRIDGE)

MSHSAA state semifinal bouts kick off on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. for Class 3 Boys. The semifinal rounds for Class 2 Girls and Class 4 Boys are scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. respectively. Later that night, the state championship bouts will begin at 5:45 p.m. at Mizzou Arena.
