Tipton tops Putnam County, claims first-ever state championship

Tipton has etched its name in the history books.
The Cardinals (13-1) captured their first state title in program history, soaring past Putnam County (13-1) for a 39-14 victory in the MSHSAA Class 1 Show-Me Bowl.
Tipton gashed its opponent with the ground game, compiling six rushing touchdowns from William Cashman (3), Tyler Rivera (2) and Paxton Pyle (1). Collectively, the Cardinals surpassed 200 yards on the ground against Putnam County.
Head Coach William Duke's program held a narrow 19-14 lead at halftime but completed its history-making mission with a stellar second half. Tipton's defense held Putnam County scoreless in the final two quarters and finished with eight tackles for loss, powered by Levi Street (2.5). Cashman extended his team's lead to three-possessions with back-to-back touchdown runs, including a pivotal 43-yard burst on fourth down to make it a two-score game. Overall, the Cardinals scored touchdowns on six of their final seven drives.
Tipton High School has seven state championships to its name across three different sports: Boys Golf (5), Girls Basketball (1) and Football (1).
