COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The St. Elizabeth and Tipton girls' basketball teams both brought home a state title.

After a close first quarter, St. Elizabeth opened up the game in the second, thanks to 10 points from Reagan Wobbe. Delta went on a run late in the fourth to threaten the Hornets lead, but a pair of cluth free throws from Wobbe, they were able to fend off the comeback.

This is the first time the Hornets have won the state title, and the only time in school history that they have reached the final four. Wobbe closed off her impressive senior year with a 32 point effort to help bring the first bit of hardware home to St. Elizabeth.

The Tipton Cardinals also reached day two of the state championships at Mizzou Arena. The Cardinals had lost just five times all season, and were in pursuit of their second ever championship.

Tipton disposed of Marionville 63-32 in the semis, but showed no signs of fatigue in the finals just a day later. From tip off, the Cardinals were in control, stretching out to an 11-2 lead in just over five minutes. The lead only grew, getting to 14 points after just the first quarter.

The second quarter was just as dominant for the cards, outscoring Portageville 23-5 to go into the half up 46-14. The Bulldogs closed the gap briefly in the third, but they were no match for Tipton, as they took home the Class two gold, 76-46.

Madison Carvajal lead the scoring effort for the newly crowned champions with 29. Ava Schlotzhauer and Clara Williams also reached double figures with 19 and 15 respectively. This is the fifth time the Cardinals have been on the podium since 2021, and their first time bringing home the title since 2023.
