Eugene advances to program’s second MSHSAA state championship
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Eugene Boys Basketball's historic 2024-25 season will end on the state championship stage.
The Eagles (27-4) punched their ticket to MSHSAA Class 2 Show-Me Showdown Championship with a 67-33 win over Lincoln (23-5) in the state semifinals. Wednesday's win cements Eugene's spot in its first state title game since 1992.
Head Coach Brian Wilde's team never trailed against the Cardinals, starting the game on an 8-0 run and outscoring Lincoln 22-6 in the first quarter. The Eagles rode that momentum to a 24-point halftime lead, an advantage that swelled to 46 points early in the fourth quarter.
Justice Allen finished as Eugene's leading scorer with 18 points, closely followed by Ethan Wunderlich with 15 points. 10 different players scored at least two points for the Eagles in the state semifinals.
Overall, Eugene handled business on both ends of the court. Offensively, Wilde's group shot 53.1% from the field and 45.5% from three-point range. Defensively, the Eagles forced 25 turnovers, including 17 steals and 10 blocks.
Up next - Eugene will face Canton for its first state title in program history on Thursday, March 13 at 8 p.m. inside Mizzou Arena.
