Southern Boone hires next head girls basketball coach

ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

Southern Boone has found the new leader of its girls basketball program. The school district named Andrew Stone its new head girls basketball coach for the 2024-25 campaign, replacing Damon Wren who stepped down from the position in the spring.

“I am beyond excited to be the new head girls basketball coach at Southern Boone,” Stone said in Thursday's press release. “This is a program I have admired for a long time, and I look forward to continuing the tradition and excellence of Lady Eagles Basketball!”

Stone has served as an assistant coach on the Jefferson City Girls Basketball coaching staff for the last four years. He is also bringing more than 10 years of basketball training experience with the Ledbetter Basketball Academy and the Missouri Phenom to the Southern Boone program.

“Coach Stone brings an incredible passion for both the game of basketball and the values and life lessons that basketball and other sports can teach our student-athletes,” Southern Boone Activities Director Trent Tracy said in the press release. “His ideas on program and player development are huge positives that we feel will greatly benefit the Southern Boone Girls Basketball program.”

The Eagles ended the 2023-24 campaign with a 12-15 record but made an appearance in the MSHSAA Final Four just one year prior. Stone will make his head coaching debut at Southern Boone when the team's season kicks off on Dec. 5 against Centralia.
