Rock Bridge falls in MSHSAA State Semifinals, will play for third place

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Rock Bridge Girls Basketball fell just one game short of returning to the MSHSAA Class 6 State Championship, losing to Incarnate Word Academy 65-41 in the semifinal round on Friday evening. The Red Knights have now won 130 straight games, a winning streak that dates back to Feb. 2020.

Despite taking the first lead of the game on a pair of free throws from Malia Chievous, Rock Bridge trailed by as many as 21 points in the first half and took a 29-11 deficit into the locker room. The Bruins finished the first two quarters of action without a three-pointer and shot just 18.2% from the field. Rock Bridge did outscore Incarnate Word by two points in the third quarter, but ultimately could not overcome that halftime deficit.

Elli Porter was Rock Bridge's leading scorer with 10 points, closely followed by Chievous with nine points. Incarnate Word's top scorers were Indiana commit Nevaeh Caffey with 22 points and SEMO commit Zoe Best with 15 points.

Rock Bridge will look to earn a third place finish in the MSHSAA Class 6 Show-Me Showdown on Saturday, March 16. The Bruins will face Cor Jesu Academy with tipoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
