Salisbury, Tipton fall in MSHSAA state semifinals

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Salisbury Boys Basketball and Tipton Girls Basketball will play for third place on Thursday in the MSHSAA Class 2 Show-Me Showdown after losing their respective games in the state semifinals.

TIPTON VS. SKYLINE

Tipton dropped its matchup with Skyline 47-42 on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals will face Norwood on Thursday, March 7 at 10 a.m. in the third place game of their Class 2 state tournament bracket.

After holding a two-point lead at halftime, Tipton gave up a 17-2 scoring run to put Skyline ahead by 15 points with about six minutes left in the game. Tipton started to rally late in the contest but could not overcome that double-digit deficit.

Ava Schlotzhauer was Tipton's leading scorer, finishing the game with a double-double 17 points and 10 rebounds. Charlee Bailey also scored in double figures, posting a 12-point performance.

WEAUBLEAU VS. SALISBURY

Salisbury lost to Weaubleau 70-61 at Mizzou Arena on Wednesday evening. The Panthers will look to secure a third place finish in their Class 2 state tournament bracket at 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 against South Pemiscot.

Salisbury led by as many as 13 points in the first half but an 8-0 scoring run from Weaubleau to close out the second quarter swung the momentum of the game. Weaubleau's Gage Johnson led the comeback for the Tigers, posting a 39-point effort.

Cooper Francis also finished the game with more than 30 points, scoring a team-high 31 points in the game. His teammate Mason Stapleton recorded a 21-point outing. Francis and Stapleton combined to score 52 of Salisbury's 61 points.
