Fulton Hornets working to flip the script and bring back winning culture

FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Dana Chambers is entering his third season at the helm of the Fulton Hornets. Ahead of the 2023 season, Chambers said he's changing some things to try to bring a winning culture back to the program.

"Our four things that we're going to focus on this year are accountability, leadership, determination and dedication," Chambers said. "We're going to focus on those things and then that's going to kind of build where we're going from the ground up."

In his first year in Fulton, Chambers' team had zero wins and last year's 1-9 record wasn't much better. However, the ending to last year's season still showed progress.

"I tell the boys all the time that you want to be playing your best football at the end of the season and I really think we were. With our last win before the playoffs started and then playing a team who ended up winning districts, losing to them by three," Chambers said.

With things starting to come together towards the end of last season, Chambers now has some big holes to fill for the upcoming season. Last years starting quarterback Walker Gohring graduated meaning the Hornet offense is in search of a new leader.

"The two guys that are battling for his spot are doing a great job. They're competitive and they're helping each other along," Chambers said. "It's fun to watch the competition and it's going to be interesting to see what we do on Friday night."

Fulton will kick off the season on Aug. 25 hosting Eldon at 7 p.m.
