Matt Moore promoted to Columbia College head women’s basketball coach

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia College Athletics is erasing the interim label from Matt Moore's title.

The department announced Moore has been promoted to the head coach of the women's basketball program after serving as the interim leader of the team since May 22.

"In our best start since the 2015 season, we can't help but be thrilled at what Coach Moore has been able to accomplish with this talented group in such a short amount of time," Athletics Director Cindy Potter said in a press release. "Our values and traditions will continue to thrive under his leadership, producing tremendous young women who are champions on the court and in our community."

Moore has led Columbia College Women's Basketball to a flawless 12-0 record to begin the young season, the program's best start since the 2015-16 campaign. It's also just the second time in program history that Columbia College has tipped off a season with 12 consecutive wins.

"I am grateful and appreciative to be able to continue my role here at Columbia College! I would like to thank Cindy Potter for giving me this opportunity, as well as these 16 young ladies on the team who make everyday a blast." said Moore.

Before being named the program's interim head coach, Moore was an assistant coach with the team for three seasons. During that stretch, Columbia College recorded a 79-17 overall record and produced 19 All-Conference student-athletes and three NAIA All-Americans.

Moore's first game as the program's official head coach will be on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m. against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis (UHSP).
