No. 8 Mizzou gymnastics posts second-best team score in program history at No. 6 Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (KMIZ)

Although No. 8 Mizzou gymnastics fell just short of its first win over Florida since the 2018 season, the Tigers still managed to put up their best team-score of the season, as the sixth-ranked Gators narrowly edged out the Tigers, 198.125-197.725.

MU's mark is not only the best of the season, but the second-best in program history, as well. Head coach Shannon Welker's team achieved that feat, courtesy of some season-best performances.

The Tigers opened up the meet by scoring a 49.400 on the bars, which is the fourth time this season that the squad has reached or exceeded that score on the apparatus. Graduate student Mara Titarsolej led the way for Mizzou with a season-best 9.950 on the bars.

Welker's group then moved onto the vault, where they put forward their best performance of the 2025 campaign, so far.

Mizzou gave the Florida Gator crowd a show on the vault, on Friday night, as sophomore Hannah Horton, senior Jocelyn Moore and senior Amari Celestine scored three-straight 9.900's to close out MU's work on the apparatus. Those performances lifted the Tigers to a season-best team score of 49.375.

MU hit the floor for the third rotation of the night. To no surprise, the 'Fab Floor,' handled business, as all but one Tiger scored at least a 9.900 on that event. Horton and sophomore Kennedy Griffin both led their team with 9.925's for their floor routines.

The Tigers ended the night on the beam, where they also ended up with a season-best team score (49.400). Once again, all but one MU gymnast ended up with at least a 9.900 on the final apparatus of the night, but it wasn't quite enough to overtake the Gators for a win.

On the beam, junior Addison Lawrence and graduate student Helen Hu ended with two-straight 9.900's.

Up next - Mizzou will return home for one last meet at the Hearnes Center. The No. 8 Tigers will host No. 11 Auburn for senior day on Sunday, March 9 at 12 p.m.
