Arkansas blows past Mizzou despite Bates’ 29-point night
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou men's basketball team's second half comeback fell short of the first SEC win of the season, on Wednesday night. The Tigers couldn't overcome a nearly 20-point first half deficit and fell 91-84 to the rival Arkansas Razorbacks.
You can watch the full postgame press conference with Mizzou men's basketball coach Dennis Gates and players in the video player below.
The loss dropped coach Gates and company to 8-13 overall and 0-8 in conference play. The Tigers have not won in 2024, as the squad has lost 12 out of its last 13 games and is currently riding an eight-game losing streak, spanning back to the beginning of January.
The score was a lot closer than the box score portrayed, as Arkansas beat MU in nearly every statistical category, on Wednesday. The Razorbacks registered 56 points in the paint to Mizzou's 30. The Hogs capitalized on turnovers, as well, scoring 25 points off of the Tigers' 18 turnovers. Meanwhile, Gates' group tallied 15 points off of Arkansas' 15 turnovers.
Once again, junior guard Tamar Bates led the scoring charge. He put up 29 points, 23 of which came in the second half, as he shot 50 from the field. However, it was a familiar story for the rest of the Tiger team. No one could catch the hot hand, even guard Sean East II, who averages about 16 points per game this season.
Up next - Mizzou will take another shot at its first conference win of the season with a road trip to Vanderbilt on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip off is slated for 2:30 p.m.
