Just as head coach Eli Drinkwitz said on Monday, quarterback Sam Horn did practice on day one, despite suffering a forearm strain on Saturday night. The dual-sport athlete tweaked his arm throwing a pitch against Florida International University.

Drinkwitz said his strain won't affect football too much, but he'll miss some time on the diamond.

2022 starting quarterback Brady Cook sported a red, no-contact jersey at practice. He will be a limited participant all of spring camp due to the shoulder surgery he got in December. He had that surgery after the team said that he played most of the 2022 season with a torn labrum.

It was the media's first glimpse of Miami transfer quarterback Jake Garcia. Garcia has not earned his number on the team yet, but it has only been one practice. On Monday, Drinkwitz said Garcia has the right persona in the locker room and has done a great job bonding with his new team.

There were some number changes from the 2022 season, most notably running back Cody Schrader switched from his No. 20 to No. 7, which was formerly worn by wide receiver Dominic Lovett. However, Lovett transferred to Georgia in the off season.
