Former Mizzou assistant named head coach at Grand Valley State

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Former Mizzou assistant basketball coach Cornell Mann is officially the new head coach at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan.

Mann will make the trip up north after serving under former MU head basketball coach Cuonzo Martin for five seasons. Before his time in Missouri, Mann spent time at Oakland, Iowa State, Dayton, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan. The gig with the Lakers will be Mann's first head coaching job.

Mann served as an interim head coach for one game at Mizzou during the 2021-22 season, while Martin was out with COVID-19. In his first season with MU, he helped Martin lead the Tigers to the program's first NCAA Tournament since 2013.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the Grand Valley State Laker family," Mann said in a press release on Saturday. "I cannot wait to get started working with the young men in our program and to build upon the tradition already in place at GVSU. We have a lot to accomplish as we strive for another GLIAC Championship. Let's get to work."
