Goldschmidt’s HR highlights U.S. team’s loss to Giants
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — A U.S. lineup expected to provide plenty of power managed just four hits in a 5-1 exhibition loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night ahead of the team’s participation in the World Baseball Classic. Mark DeRosa finally got a chance to make his managerial debut with the U.S. team that includes Mookie Betts and Mike Trout, among other big bats. The Cardinals’ Paul Goldschmidt homered for the U.S. squad. DeRose is hoping the team comes together quickly and uses its exhibition games to get a few quality at-bats. The U.S. team opens tournament play on Saturday against Great Britain.
