SAN DIEGO (AP) — A person with direct knowledge of the deal says Yu Darvish has agreed to a new contract with the San Diego Padres that guarantees the pitcher an additional $90 million and will keep him with the club through the 2028 season. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal hadn’t been announced. Darvish’s contract is for six years, paying him a total of $108 million, and keeps him in San Diego until he’s 42. Darvish was set to make $18 million in 2023 before becoming a free agent. The 36-year-old helped the Padres reach the NL Championship Series last season.
