Saudi league hires former Man City CEO after Ronaldo arrival
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The Saudi Arabian soccer league has hired the former chief executive of Manchester City to work on cashing in commercial opportunities created by the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in the country. Garry Cook was a long-time Nike executive before joining Man City in 2008. He was with the Premier League club for three years. The Saudi league says Cook is now president and CEO. League chairman Abdulaziz Alafaleq says “the eyes of the world are on Saudi football” and he set a goal to “drive commercial and broadcast opportunities.” Ronaldo made his league debut with Al Nassr on Sunday in a 1-0 win over Ettifaq.
