CHICAGO (AP) — Nico Hoerner is returning to second base with the Chicago Cubs after the team signed Gold Glove shortstop Dansby Swanson to a $177 million, seven-year contract last month. Hoerner and Swanson should give the Cubs one of the majors’ best double-play combinations. Hoerner praised the team for its communication with him as it examined its options in free agency, and he says moving from shortstop back to second is no issue for him at all.
