Chasing win 81, skier Shiffrin leads slalom after 1st run
ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — Mikaela Shiffrin dealt best with difficult course conditions to lead a women’s World Cup slalom after the first run in unseasonable warm weather. The four-time overall champion is chasing her 81st career victory. A win would leave her one short of the women’s record set by fellow American Lindsey Vonn. Shiffrin started last from the top-seven ranked racers but did best to keep the line between the gates on the rather soft snow surface. Shiffrin led Anna Swenn Larsson of Sweden by 0.23 seconds. Former overall champion Petra Vlhová of Slovakia was 0.55 back in third.
