MADRID (AP) — UEFA has apologized to the fans for the “frightening and distressing” chaos at the Champions League final last weekend. Fans, including children, were tear-gassed, assaulted and harassed while trying to get into the final in Paris. UEFA initially blamed fans who arrived late, then fans with fake tickets. UEfA now says, “No football fan should be put in that situation, and it must not happen again.” Real Madrid has joined Liverpool in demanding UEFA explains what went wrong at the Stade de France. Real Madrid wants an explanation for the causes of the disorder that left its fans “abandoned and defenseless.”
