Small schools ride a lasting wave from March Madness upsets

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Residuals from upsets in the NCAA Tournament last years for small schools. Recognition grows and enrollments increase when schools like Saint Peter’s, Loyola Chicago or Maryland-Baltimore Country pull off upsets during March Madness. Merchandise sales also increase, both locally and nationally. Davidson’s run to the Sweet 16 in 2008 even served as the impetus for the Wildcats to move from the Southern Conference to the bigger Atlantic 10.
