Mizzou edge rusher earns second SEC weekly honor of season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

For the second time in two weeks, Mizzou defensive end Daeden Hopkins is being recognized by the Southeastern Conference for his play on the field.

On Monday, the league announced that the Hermann, Missouri native is the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, marking the second time he's earned that honor this season. The recognition comes after Hopkins was one of the major bright spots of the the Tigers' 31-24 loss to Mississippi State, on Saturday.

Hopkins lived in the Bulldog backfield in Starkville, racking up 3.5 sacks, which ranks second all-time in a single-game in program history. That brought his season sack total up to 6.0, which ranks third nationally and second in the SEC. In Saturday's game, he also added on 4.0 total tackles (3.0 solo).

The edge rusher is having a breakout sophomore season for head coach Eli Drinkwitz, as he leads the nation amongst FBS defenders with at least 100 pass-rush snaps and a ProFootballFocus pass-rushing grade of 90.8.

He was previously named the SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week on Sept. 14, following a 1.5 sack outing versus the Kansas Jayhawks.
