Tiger volleyball caps off perfect weekend at the Mizzou Tournament

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou volleyball improved to 3-0 on the weekend with a 3-1 win over FGCU.

Sunday's match against the Eagles was the final of a three game stretch at the Mizzou Tournament. Head coach Dawn Sullivan's squad entered the finale 7-1 on the weekend, only dropping a single set to Arkansas State on Friday.

The Tigers started out hot, bringing in the momentum from the previous two wins. They jumped out to a 7-2 lead and only opened up that gap. Another 5-1 scoring run moving the line to 17-9, before Katie Gielas put a bow on the first set, winning 25-14.

However despite that hot start, Gulf Coast fired back in the second set. The Eagles strung together seven straight points to get into the drivers seat, before handing Mizzou its second loss of the entire tournament.

Coach Sullivan and her squad managed to recover in set three though. Both teams were level at 15, before Mizzou went on a 10-2 run to burry FGCU in the third, and followed suit securing the match win 25-18 in the final set.

Grace O'Reilly impressed on the outside, netting 13 kills on just 18 attempts with no defensive errors. Kimani Johnosn also reached 13 kills, co-leading the team in points at 14.5 with O'Reilly. Piper Batie and Sierra Dudley traded reps at setter, earning 22 and 18 assists, respectively.

Up Next - Mizzou will travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for the Bowling Green/Toledo Invitational. Game one is set for Friday, Sept. 18 against Dayton, with tip off scheduled for noon.
